Commentary

bulletThis year saw two early 80s punk-influenced bands emerge--Green Day and the Offspring, here they were #1 and #2.  Green Day rubbed me the wrong way somehow, maybe by trying too hard with the whole bored slacker thing.  But I really liked the Offspring from the first time I heard Come Out and Play.  They have always had a way of combining catchiness, hooks and humor.
bulletI really like Hole's Live Through This and felt the album was overshadowed by Courtney Love's notoriety, plus the death of Kurt Cobain and rumors he was the brains behind the whole thing.  It was both trippy and eerie when I first heard the version of Asking For It with him on backing vocals.
